Looking for Sponsors for 2012 Angel Cup

As 12 teams from 9 foreign teams have confirmed their attendance for our 5th edition of the Angel Cup International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament, we are still open for companies, groups or individuals who are interested to be part of our event as sponsors.

Over the years, we have seen Serdang Rhythmic Angels’ Angel Cup grown from four-team tournament to a twelve-team fight.  In fact, the results speak for itself.

Jamie Lee Yoke Jeng, winner of the Junior category in our first edition of the Angel Cup was part of the gold medal winning team in the 2007 Sea Games in Korat, Thailand.  She is currently a coach at Serdang Rhythmic Angels’ centre in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

Elaine Koon, the winner of the Pre-Junior category in the 2004 Angel Cup and subsequently the Junior category in the 2006 Angel Cup went on to win 1 gold medal, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, becoming the pride of Malaysia.

Son Yeon-Jae, the South Korean who won the Junior category during the 2008 Angel Cup was the bronze medal winner of the 2010 Asian Games and is now ranked fifth in the world (based in FIG statistics).  She is definitely one of the medal contenders of the coming 2012 London Olympics.

Veronica Au Wei Ran, the 2010 Angel Cup Junior category overall champion has gone on to win many local and international tournaments, showcasing unique skills and original routines.  She is currently representing Malaysia in the Asean Schools Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia.  We are all wishing her the best of luck and hoping that she succeed in the regional tournament!

Those who are interested to be part of the event as sponsors are encouraged to email angelcupmas@yahoo.com or call 016-3177302 (Mdm Teh) or 019-3827299 (Mdm Kok) to find out more.

Of course, all this wouldn’t be possible without Mdm Kok Mong Lin and Dr. Teh Lah Hoong who always make time for the sport despite their busy schedule as a lecturer and a school’s senior assistant respectively.  Special credits and thanks to the committee members as well. Together, let’s bring this all the way to the top!

Classification Competition May 2011

On the 29th of May 2011, Serdang Rhythmic Angels once again held their classification competition as a platform for the gymnasts to gauge their strength and progress as well.  The classification program also allows the club's gymnasts to proceed to the next level whereby they would have the opportunity to take on new elements and technique.

The competition started at 9 am with the presence of Mdm. Jayalily Daniel, Mdm Usha Rani Ayyaru, Mdm Norhashimah Abbas as well Mdm. Chew Siew Tin as judges for the whole day.  So, there we go from Little Gymnasts all the way to Grade 5 in the evening, a long day indeed.

During the lunch break, we had the prize-giving ceremony for Little Gymnasts and Grade 1. All in all, everyone went home satisfied, especially the little ones as they have trophies to add to their collection or in some cases start a collection. The club has taken the initiative to divide the gymnasts into their age group for each level. For example, there is the born 2005 to 2006 and born 2003 to 2004 categories for Little Gymnasts, same goes for the other grades. This allows the gymnasts to have a level playing field among their peers.

In the afternoon session, several gymnasts caught the attention of the judges as well as the audience. One of them is Chan Shi Ting, a six-year-old who went on to compete in both Grade 1 and Grade 2. It is an amazing feet indeed for a gymnast her age. We wish her all the best for the future endeavours!

We also had 3 gymnasts all the way from Sabah who came for the competition as well as a one-week training stint.  After previously having gymnasts from Japan, South Africa, Taiwan, Philipines, Singapore, and Johor over for a training stint, the club is thrilled to have the delegation from Sabah over for the event.

At the end of the day, during the prize-giving ceremony, it was announced that the overall winner for Grade 5 was Tham Pei En who train under Ms. Makoto Sato. She won the rope, hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon event to become the overall champion for her category. After her success in this classification competition, she would be preparing for the more challenging junior program.

Thank you to the coaches, judges, gymnasts and parents for their cooperation and effort to make this event a success. I can't stop here without mentioning the gratitude all of us have for Mdm. Kok Mong Lin as well as Mdm. Teh Lah Hoong who worked tirelesly to make the grading happen. So, a big THANK YOU to everyone!

After this, training would be going on as usual to gear up for the next grading which will be due in December/early January.

Here are some photos of the grading. Enjoy!

Japanese Gymnasts @ Serdang Rhythmic Angels

Last week, Seradang Rhythmic Angels had some special guests-Gymnasts from Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. They are the former gymnasts of our coach, Ms Makoto Sato.

The 5 gymnasts were here for a short training camp to prepare for their upcoming competitions.

Observing the their training was really an eye-opener as they are highly discipline and very respectful towards everyone. In addition to that, the spirit and energy they bring into their training is really inspiring. That is the kind of foundation that we need to bring up a successful gymnast. So, we hope, this exposure would motivate SRA's gymnasts to work harder and achieve greater heights in their rhythmic gymnastics career.

One day before the Japanese girls are due to fly back home, we had a mini control testing where we got the chance to see all of them performing their individual and group exercise. People always say that the  Japanese group exercise is one of the best in the world. Seeing their performance on that day, we have no more doubt about their team work, creativity and originality. Other than that, on that day itself, SRA gymnasts also got the opprtunity to display their skills in their respective categories.

After all the hard work, we had a small gathering at the auditorium. We were able to enjoy food prepared from our SRA's mummies. There were nasi lemak, karipap, kuih, ketupat, curry chicken, agar-agar...It was definitely a Malaysian food affair.

The gymnasts even took the opportunity to exchange gifts and contacts as well as take photos with our 'stars'. It was quite an experience for the gymnasts, especially the young ones. In three words, everyone had fun!

Sayonara to the Japanese girls and we welcome you to come visit us again. All the best to all of you:)
