Classification Competition 2011
What a day! The classification competition today has seen gymnasts aged from 4 to 14 years competing in the level of Little Gymnasts up to Grade 5. The competition started at about 8.30 am and ended at 5.30 pm.
It was indeed a fruitful affair as we seen many talented budding gymnasts showing off their skills to impress the judges. The highlight of the day should be the performance of the two Grade 5 gymnasts, Yap Qian Ling and Loo Shiow Yng who impressed the judges, parents and the gymnasts with their exceptional flexibilities and apparatus handling. Both of the girls are trained by Jamie Lee Yoke Jeng, a former national gymnast. I am sure we can expect great things from Qian Ling and Shiow Yng in the future. Keep up the good work girls!
The competition wrapped up with the prize-giving ceremony, a time which every gymnast look forward to. The ceremony went on smoothly with the cameras clicking away non-stop to capture the proud moment. The best thing about it is that almost every gymnast received a trophy, putting a smile on everyone's face.
Thank you for the support of all the judges, coaches, parents and also gymnasts. Special appreciation to all the hardwork put in by Mdm Kok Mong Lin and Mdm Teh Lah Hoong, the founders of the club who strive to make this a success. Thank you everyone!

Club Profile
The idea of setting up this rhythmic gymnastics club was mooted in 1998 to cope with the shortage of qualified coaches and the tremendous interest in this sport. Kok Mong Lin or 'Mama Kok', fresh from the success of the 1998 Commonwealth Games rhythmic gymnastics team together with Teh Lah Hoong (rhythmic gymnastics project manager of JAYA '98) formed a voluntary training centre in Seri Kembangan, offering free rhythmic gymnastics training to all girls who were interested. From an initial number of 12 gymnasts in 1998, the enrolment of the club named as Serdang Rhythmic Angels has grown to 16 elite gymnasts, 50 developmental programme gymnasts and 128 recreational and budding gymnasts at the last count. Besides, it is also a training ground for interested coaches/coaches-to-be. Physical Education undergraduates from Universiti Putra Malaysia and ex-national gymnasts such as Thye Chee Kiat, Durratun Nashihin, Cheong Zu Er and Jamie Lee Yoke Jeng have volunteered their services to the centre.
The club is entirely managed by volunteers headed by Kok Mong Lin (1999 National Woman Coach of the Year) and Teh Lah Hoong (1998 MSSM/MILO Woman Coach of The Year). Currently the club has twoo full-time qualified coaches: Elena Mesheryakova (who is fully sposored by the National Sports Council of Malaysia), Atsuko Koyama and 12 part-time coaches: Durratun Nashihin, Jamie Lee, Tam Sheau Wen, Choo Pui Yoke, Chen Li Shan, Ong Yen Chiu, Tai Chien Siu, Tay Li Xin, Lee Hwei Ling, Loh Chooi Shawn, Tan Yih Nan and Lee Mei Guan.
Ms elena Mesheryakova coaches the gymnasts of the elite programme whereas Ms Atsuko Koyama is in charge of the developmental programme which is the 'feeder' group to the elite programme. The gymnasts have not only succeed in the national arena but also have won accolades from teams abroad. So far, two gymnasts from Serdang Rhythmic Angels Club are training at the national training centre in Bukit Jalil, namely Amy Kwan Dict Weng and Elaine Koon who made the country proud during the recent Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Thus far, we have successfully organized four editions of our own Angel Cup. The last one was held on the 13-15 August 2010 where we saw gymnasts from ten different countries, namely Australia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, New Zealand, Uzbekistan, Cyprus, Indonesia and Malaysia coming together to share our love for the sport. Our role fired by passion, is to realise the dreams and interests of all girls and young ladies in this beautiful Olympic sport of rhythmic gymnastics. We genuinely believe in the ideals of sports training which lay down the foundations of character building in these young lives besides their pursuit of success in this sport.
